Indrajit Gupta is a business journalist and editor with over two decades of experience. His last assignment was as the Founding Editor of the Indian edition of Forbes magazine. Within four years of its launch, Forbes India became the most influential business magazine in its space.
Gupta’s next big, hairy, audacious goal is to disrupt the digital media and learning space. At Founding Fuel, he and his co-founders have worked hard to give shape to a new venture that is built around a Big Idea: entrepreneurship, which they believe the potential to transform India over the next ten years. Using a combination of new digital media and learning tools, Gupta believes it is possible to serve an entrepreneurial community and help them create a new playbook of entrepreneurship.
Over the years, he has built a reputation for grooming talent and creating highly energised and purposeful newsrooms, and preparing them for digital transitions. In his current role at Founding Fuel, he has acquired multi-media capabilities (using a combination of text, podcasts, interactive graphics and video) through effective partnerships, built an influential extended publishing network and also created a Digital Media Lab internally that is evolving new story-telling formats, tailored for the smartphone.
Before taking up the assignment to start up the India edition of Forbes magazine, Gupta was the Resident Editor of The Economic Times in Mumbai and before that, the National Business Editor of The Times of India. He won the Polestar journalism award in 2010 and was awarded the Chevening fellowship by the British Foreign and Commonwealth office in 1999. Gupta is an alumnus of the SP Jain Institute of Management and Research, Mumbai and a B.Com (Hons) graduate from St Xavier’s College, Calcutta.
He writes a column titled Strategic Intent which appears in Business Standard’s edit page. Gupta has taught at his alma mater and also at the Jamnalal Bajaj Institute of Management Studies.
He lives in Mumbai with his wife and two young school-going daughters.
