Arpita Das owns the Delhi-based independent publishing house YODA PRESS, which was co-founded by her in 2004. She also ran an indie bookstore called YODAKIN in New Delhi between 2009 and July this year, which closed because of a prohibitive increase in rent. In the same month that YODAKIN closed, Das became Adjunct Faculty at the School of Business, Ambedkar University Delhi, where she is mentoring 2nd year students to come up with a business plan for their proposed cooperative campus bookstore. Das has just co-launched a self-publishing platform called AuthorsUpFront.
As a publisher, she has always believed that she is not a gatekeeper but a facilitator in knowledge-production. She is excited with the changeover from book trade to book culture that the digital era has made possible and is determined to be part of it.
