GopikrishnanGopikrishnan Kottoor is an award winning poet. His poetry has appeared in major poetry magazines in India and outside. He has been represented in International poetry anthologies on Contemporary Indian Poetry in English. He attended the MFA Poetry program of Texas State University, San Marcos, Texas, USA), and was Resident poet in Augsburg University, Fürth Germany, where his poems were translated and published in German. For a period from 1987 to 1994, he published the booklet magazine “Every Man’s & Woman’s Guide”, headquartered in Chennai. He then founded Poetry Chain, a poetry quarterly that attained national recognition, and published many of the major, established, and up coming Indian poets in English. The Journal ran uninterruptedly from 1997-2007.
As a publisher of poetry, Gopi Krishnan Kottoor views Indian poetry in English as a bee hive of activity. But though there is great energy here, much of it is washed away into the sea without meaningful controls or sense of direction and sans proper poetry education as part of curriculum, or even in the media. Are we worse off without verse? Yes, and why wonder, when our literature and emerging poetry psyche, will be the better with it.
